Dinoblade builds come down to four attributes, Health, Strength, Resonance and Stamina, plus Boss SP for the Soul Arts tree. There are no classes and no party: you are tuning one Spinosaurus. Our pick for a first run is Health, then Stamina, until you stop dying to missed deflects; after that, lean into Strength for melee or Resonance for spells.

About the game

Dinoblade

Updated 2026-10-15: Story Mode now has a playable Raptor (September 29 patch) and a REMATCH option for defeated mini bosses (October 2 patch). We also removed the fixed counts for Max Heal Ores and swords, since neither Steam nor the developer publishes one.

What each attribute does

Jean Nguyen, the developer, laid the system out in a GamingBolt interview: you put SP into one of four stats, and each has a clear job.

Health is the tank stat. It doesn't make you stronger, it buys you more attempts at reading a boss, which is what a first run is mostly about.

Strength raises physical damage, meaning your light and heavy attacks. It got a direct boost after launch: the July 30 patch raised Instinct Counter damage scaling "so that it doesn't fall off late game for Strength Builds", in the developer's words.

Resonance raises spell damage and the amount of Resonance you hold. Jean Nguyen added the spell damage role after demo feedback, so Resonance is the stat for players who want their Soul Arts to carry fights.

Stamina lets you keep attacking, deflecting and dodging before you have to wait for it to come back. It is also tied to the Transformation form, so a Soul Arts player can't ignore it completely.

Nobody has published per-point values or caps, ours included, so the builds below are priorities, not breakpoints.

Boss SP and the Soul Arts tree

Boss SP is what unlocks and upgrades your abilities. Each Alpha, the main boss blocking the way to the next map, gives 3 Boss SP and sometimes a new weapon. Mini bosses give Boss SP too, and more is hidden around the maps next to healing items and weapons. You can travel back for anything you skipped, and since the October 2 patch you can rematch a defeated mini boss for practice by going back to where it fell and finding its dropped weapon.

The Soul Arts tree has four abilities and one passive, and each can be raised through three levels. Every level makes the ability stronger and changes how it looks. The developer's example: one ability stuns the enemy at level 1, and from level 2 it transforms you into the dinosaur you've bonded with. Beaten bosses can also become Ghost Summons, each with its own passive.

Spend Boss SP on the one art that fixes your current fight before you spread it around. Maxing an art is its own goal on Steam: Meteor Slice, Meteor Dash and Meteor Zone each have an achievement for upgrading them "to its limits", and the Dinoblade achievements guide lists them with the rest.

Jean Nguyen's skills showcase from before launch shows the Soul Arts side of a build: red lightning strikes the arena around 0:07, a thrown blade pins a crocodile-like enemy at 0:13, and the Summoning Skill tutorial card appears at 0:17.

Three Dinoblade builds to start from

These are our templates, not in-game classes. Swap priorities when your deaths tell you to.

Learner: Health, then Stamina

For a first run, or when you keep using up your healing before a boss's last phase. Health gives you more tries per attempt and Stamina keeps the deflect and dodge open after a bad read. Strength can wait until you reliably reach safe openings. Pick up the extra Max Heal Ores on the way; the health ore guide has the route.

Counter: Stamina, then Strength

For players who like to stay close, deflect, and punish short windows. Stamina keeps the defensive loop running and Strength makes each counter count, which the July 30 Instinct Counter change rewards directly. Keep some Health: one missed red glint still hurts. The Dinoblade parry guide covers the timing this build depends on.

Soul Arts: Resonance, then Stamina

For players who would rather fight with abilities and summons. Resonance raises spell damage and your pool, and Stamina matters here because the Transformation form draws on it. Put Boss SP into one art first, and check side areas for the hidden Boss SP before the next Alpha. The bosses in order walkthrough gives you the sequence to plan around.

Step by step: choose and test a build

  1. Name what ends your attempts. A missed deflect, an empty stamina bar, a slow damage race or a failed ability window each point to a different stat.
  2. Start balanced. Use the first hours to learn the four attributes before committing.
  3. Pick one main attribute that answers the problem from step 1.
  4. Keep one defensive stat supported. A Strength or Resonance build still needs Health or Stamina to survive a missed read.
  5. Clear side paths for Boss SP. Mini bosses and hidden pickups feed the Soul Arts tree, and you can travel back later.
  6. Level one Soul Art before spreading out.
  7. Fight the same boss again. REMATCH lets you replay defeated mini bosses, which makes it easy to compare a change.
  8. Re-check after collecting upgrades. Extra Max Heal Ores and new swords change how comfortable a build feels.

Our take

We'd start with Health and Stamina and only specialize once a boss stops killing you through misreads. After that, Strength is the simple pick for melee players and got a late-game boost in the July 30 patch, while Resonance suits players who want Soul Arts and summons to do the work. Spend Boss SP on one art at a time; a single upgraded tool beats four level-1 ones.

How we checked this

  • On 2026-10-15 we reread the GamingBolt interview with Jean Nguyen for the attribute roles, Boss SP and the Soul Arts tree.
  • We checked Dinoblade's Steam news through the October 12 hotfix and the Steam achievement list.
  • We cross-checked names against the fan-run Dinoblade Wiki and watched the developer's skills showcase frame by frame.
  • No one has published per-point stat values, caps or respec rules, and we didn't measure them; the builds above are our priorities, not tested breakpoints.

Frequently Asked Questions

What stats does Dinoblade have?

Four: Health for survivability, Strength for physical damage, Resonance for spell damage and Resonance pool, and Stamina for staying in a fight longer and powering the Transformation form.

What is the best Dinoblade build?

There is no official best build. Health and Stamina first is the safest start; move to Strength for melee or Resonance for spells once you survive reliably.

How do you get Boss SP in Dinoblade?

Each Alpha gives 3 Boss SP, mini bosses give Boss SP, and extra Boss SP is hidden around the maps.

How does the Soul Arts tree work in Dinoblade?

Four abilities and one passive, each with three levels. Higher levels make an ability stronger and change its look.

Should I spend points on Health or Strength first?

Health while you are still learning deflects; Strength once you reach safe openings and want them to end fights faster.

Can you respec Dinoblade attributes?

Neither the Steam page nor the developer has documented a respec rule for the full game, so treat each point as permanent.
